Weekend with the “layers” & maybe more….
It has been almost a horrific week……too many things came together @ once. Almost zero room to take a break.
We call ourselves “unlucky” when thing doesn’t seemed to be going our way. And yes, it has been a very unlucky week for me. Just incase you are wondering ?? It’s mostly on my work. All i have to say about this is–there’s nothing wrong with being a fool, worst thing is, you know you are a genuine fool, but still trying your best not to seem like one. Either way, a fool is still a fool yes ???
Anyway, enough of the crap talk. But, the fool part is still real.
Haha.
So, having a heavy week as a start….one will automatically think of a way to “de-stressed” …..and maybe i’ve been using too much of my brain this past week……i actually crave for sweet things when i reach the weekend.
What kinda “sweet things” will i be craving for ?? Is it ice cream? candies? all kinds of desserts ??? Err……not quiet.
I can only satisfied my sweet cravings by going to the opposite side of the river, from my city.
Ok, i didn’t take this picture. Luckily enough, found it on google. Whoever took this photo….ur brilliant !! And err…hope you don’t mind me having to”borrow” it for this post ????
So this is my city……see the small boat with the yellow roof ??? People here still uses that to cross the river. It’s faster and more convenient. But, in this case……i would prefer to drive. Not across the river……but to use the road to drive across the river. Heheheh
Ah yes……go across the river to do what ???
Satisfying my sweet cravings.
I often hear people telling me how some tourist would go crazy when they see this particular sweet thing i was looking for…my mind was lingering with doubts. How could someone go crazy with some local cakes ????
After some thoughts…….these sweet little things…..probably could really make people go crazy after them…..you know why ??
This is why,
These are cakes!!!!
We call them — Kek Lapis.
They are made up from different layers of cakes…baked and then layered again!!! And the patterns you see above is just a few in a million.
This is normally the way you serve the cakes.
Ok, so i’ve found all these images showing the amazing “workman-ship” to the cake from google…..you can type in the word — Kek Lapis Sarawak, meaning cake lapis in Sarawak, and you will be able to find more images.
You can see these infamous cakes whenever we celebrate festivals here , particularly the Hari Raya. @ 1st i thought they only produces these cakes whenever a festive is near…..but no! They actually operate whole year round!! Which actually is a great news to me, because i’m a big fan of these cakes!!!
And so, this particular weekend….i wanna go explore this cake place which many people have been talking about, just across the river.
I was so excited when arriving @ the shop!! So i forgot to take pictures from the outside…..but it’s ok, can always do it later…..
This has got to be one of the most generous shop i’ve been to………they let you sample the cake before you buy!! But look @ the amount of sampling they provide ?! If i were those only taste and never buy customer….this place must be a heaven !!!
And so being who i am……hehehe……of course i need to sample them too right ???
And if you think their sampling is a little too much……look what they’ve got to offer to their wonderful customers ???
Stacks and stacks of cakes for you to choose from !!!! Oh and btw…you see the guy in pin stripe yellow top ??? The basket that he was holding @ that time…i think contained @ least 20 cakes!!!!! And i’m not kidding!!
Look @ them!!
And i was surprised by the price too…..each of them selling @ RM10….which to me is quiet reasonable. Really.
After having to choose and decide…..we’ve finally decided on the yam and the square pattern like the 1st pic that i’ve shown .
People @ the counter is so damn busy !!! can u see the guy behind me ??? I mean his facial expression ?? Oh and…if you buy too many and carrying it in a plastic bag is no longer an option…..they too can pack them in their own mini carton boxes for you!!!
Yeap, 4 person sorting out the cashier counter is still a little too less…….
So after paying for our cakes….we leave the shop happily…and not to forget snapping a pic outside their shop….with their own logo and website printed in bold…..
get a glimpse of their website ???
If not, try this — http://www.keklapisdayangsalhah.com, and check out some details from there.
Satisfied.
Mentally but not physically.
Physically…..i would like to go Disneyland…..since i’m a theme park savvy typo person…….but wait…..do we have Disneyland in Kuching?? Am i out of my mind ??????
Well…probably i was……
But wait…..probably my dream could really come true……..
just………
LOOK @ THIS !!!!!!
We have DI-SI-NI LAND HERE IN KUCHING!!!
WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE!!!!
MUAHAHAHAHAHAA
So after having to take in and digest with the fact that, we DO have ‘Disneyland’ here in Kuching…..
we drove on…..
and then we saw another sign again……
Another Di-SI-NI land sign telling us to go that way……….
Well, we’ve turn into every corner…….tried every way……
BUT…..DI-SI-NI land is no where to be SEEN !!!!!
Are they trying to FOOL us ?????
If anyone reading this post happens to know where Di-Si-Ni land is……please let me know !!!!
Much appreciated !!!!
Oh and……it wasn’t easy finding Di-Si-Ni land too !!!!
We actually drove all the way up to another district !!!! Hahahahaha
But anyway….it was a nice experience too……and halfway along the way, we actually thought we’ve arrived in Guiling, China ! Hahahaha
With this half stone half green like mountain…..any resemblance to the China one ???? hehehhe
Anyway, we got home after being refreshed by the nature’s wonder…and after the never ever after Di-Si-Ni land……..
I couldn’t resist the itch to cut open the cakes !!!!
This is how they look like from the inside!!
This is the Yam flavored….
After cutting it…..this is how it looks from the inside….
Pardon me for those very unpolished nails…..hehehe….
And this long shaped kek lapis….i love the contrasting red colour…….
The inside is not much difference from the outside……
This is strawberry flavored with prunes!!
The inside…..
This is the cheese flavor….not much in terms of pattern and design…..
The inside….
By looking @ it…should get something that has got more exotic patterns eh ???
But for now……
HAPPY ‘SALIVATING’ !!!

hi Choeling… so..what happened to the disiniland? i tot u were showing some pictures of the kuching disney..
then suddenly i saw the kueh lapis in your hands.. they look so attractive, ye.. but how was the taste actually? quality made or not? but for 10rm, the workmanship is already worth it! LOL…
Hey there Claire! hehehee…i thk we got fooled by the signage….cannot find Disini @ all!! The cake actually taste more like a moist butter cake…if you can imagine the taste…it’s quiet good actually !!I would say their quality is there….yeah !!
Oh my the kek lapis is sooo sexy!!! lol…. beautiful… I never tried swak kek lapis yet… but so far the best I tried was from Jakarta… must try this soon!! always heard about it but never have a chance to try…
seriously beautiful.. ^_^
Yeap, if u c the cake for real, i think u’ll b even more amazed….:P
Hey Chloe! Still remember me? it’s been quite some time since i dropped by…kinda miss your site..hehe..
i saw all the kueh lapis and now i’m craving for it…aiyak…n it’s only 6 am…
frankly speaking, i’d prefer simple layers flavor *e.g cheese, horlick..to name a few* than those fancy2 patterns because most of the fancy ones tastes almost the same…lagik2 when i penah kena tipu, when i was told that they only use high quality better but the truth was they were using cheap margarines… *margarines can make kueh lapis dry and stale*
Will drop by to comment more in the future ^_^
Noni!! Ofcos i remember u!! Thank u so much for dropping by….Well, i haven’t been updating my blog lately too…due to my heavy workload ….:( Yeah talking abt the kuih lapis…i heard when u go to d shop, you have to ask them which ones are made out of real butter…..i kinda agree with you….some that are not made out of real butter really doesn’t taste that good.
